Aotearoa, New Zealand, the lost archipelago… Welcome to another planet!
This is a world unlike any other: the last continent to be discovered by humans, just 700 years ago.
In this archipelago, which remained isolated in the middle of the oceans for 80 million years, life evolved in ways very different from the rest of the planet. Giant terrestrial birds inhabit these extraordinary islands, alongside reptiles and frogs that have survived since prehistoric times. The only native land mammals are tiny bats that scurry along the ground.
Severely impacted by the arrival of humans and the animals they brought with them, these natural treasures are now passionately protected by New Zealanders.
This portfolio invites you to discover this unique and little-known world. The result of my work over several years in close collaboration with the protectors of New Zealand’s fauna and flora, particularly with the New Zealand Department of Conservation, these images showcase a fascinating and fragile biodiversity that is essential to preserve.
The photographs in this portfolio are featured in my exhibition “Aotearoa, New Zealand, Guardians of the Lost Ark”.
